Lake Pukaki and winery visit

Unfortunately, having the strict check out time at the camping grounds, our morning at Lake Tekapo was quite rushed.

We couldn't leave without having a cooked breakfast with this stunning view as a back drop. Having 4 adults we managed to prepare the meals quite well. 

Our first stop for the day was not far from Lake Tekako. There are two other lakes along the edge of the Mackenzie Basin besides Lake Tekako. They are Lake Pukaki and Lake Ohau. They all have this stunning blue colour, created by glacial flow, the extremely fine ground rock particles from the glaciers. Lake Pukaki is the largest of the three. I wish it was not as windy as it was so we could admire this stunning view for much longer...

One of the major items on our to-do-list was visiting wineries and try some of the fine NZ wines. There were so many marked on the maps and road signs but we didn't do any research on which ones to visit (that was bit silly) in the end we had to pick random places. 

  

This winery "MAORI POINT" was owned by some Americans and kiwi scientists. They told us wine making is truly scientific experiments. They just have to decide on what kind of wine they would like to make then make the chemical reactions happen.

This short beer size bottle was their unique product - sparking rose. Very good idea, but to me I prefer drinking wine in a nice big wine glass...

Kei was happy trying all different wines finally!!

Since Matthew and Tetsuo had to drive only Kei and I had lots of the yummy wine. It was a pity the place only offered wine tasting and not lunch. It was in such a beautiful location!
