What a fantastic afternoon we had at this little spot on the Auckland waterfront!
The
Wynyard Quarter has been an area for the industrial port and it has recently been developed as a leisure place.
There was maritime playground for the kids to run around.
There were lots kids playing in the park - well... 10 of them were Rose relations :)

It wasn't too cold. The warm afternoon sun on us made it just perfect!

Oliver was very impressed when we got to the bridge. The bridge opens and closes when ships and boats go past. We walked over to the other side very slowly hoping some of the ships might come in but nahhh... didn't happen :(
Instead we found this amazing bookswap container:
They are old shipping containers - How cool is this!?
I loved the vivid colours used for the containers and the chairs provided.
And the funky walkway too.
The wind got a little nippy so we decided to head off. We were talking about how disappointed we were not to see the bridge operating. Then suddenly we heard - "ding ding ding!" Yes a boat was coming!
I wanted to take the photos from the side of the bridge so that I can see the bridge opening and closing and the boat in the middle. So I ran off to this spot. Afterwards I walked back to where Oliver was to find out how excited he was about the bridge. Guess what he told me? He said "where is the boat mummy I only saw the bridge" Yap that's right he was standing on the end of the bridge so he could only see the big gray concrete slabs being lifted sky high but not the boat going by...
It was pity that we couldn't try the Dockline Trams to go around the Wynyard loop. Apparently there were two 1920's heritage trams that are going for the first time in 50 years.
I kind of like not doing everything whenever we visit new places. We can always come back again.
So this will be definitely be on our things to do next time we visit Auckland!
