Gong Xi Fa Chai 2017

It's the exciting time of the year here in Singapore. Wherever you go you hear the "Gong Xi" songs and your kids drive you nuts singing the chicken song? for the entire afternoon...

Luca and Ashley had a Chinese New Year celebration party at their kindy today. Oliver had his one the other day but he took the outfit to wear only at school - so no photos of him this year (I still should have taken pictures with all three of them...).

Ashley's first day at nursery

Someone was so super excited to get a Big Girl Backpack.

It still feels strange to me to send the kids to school for the new school year at the very beginning of the year. Ashley was very proud of herself in her uniform and her brand new backpack on her first day of nursery class (Luca is in K2 and didn't start until the 5th of Jan). 

Now that she is a big girl she walked her little friend Naima with her to school. It was Naima's first day at pre-nursery at GSCK. 

I can see Ashley grew so much from the length of her skirt. You are growing way way too fast our little princess x

Luca's end of year concert 2016

We were very excited to see Luca's performance at the end of year concert. He has been practicing very hard. He wanted to make sure all the dance moves were correct. He also told us that he might have a solo speech in Chinese.

We were seated right next to the Williams (our neighbours) which was very nice.

Since it is also K2 students graduation ceremony, K1 and nursery kids play only a small role. Finally after a long wait it was Luca's turn to perform his Chinese dance. 

During the performance he looked very concentrated and SUPER serious. He didn't even smile once!

Unfortunately Luca didn't get to do the solo speech. The teacher told him that there were some extra students who have been practicing but they picked the best ones on the day of the concert. 

He sang and performed with the entire student body at the end too. 

You can tell from his BIG Luca smile that he really enjoyed being in the show!

Well done Luca! Next year he will be in K2 and graduating from the kindergarten. Ashley will be also performing a little part in it too. Where has the time gone? Our kids are growing up way too fast!

Kids Fun Day at kindy

This years kids fun day at Ashley and Luca's kindy was organised in a slightly different way. 1) The older kids made all the attractions for the smaller ones. 2) It was for a fund raiser/charity purpose but we had to spend quite a lot of money to buy tickets for each game.

Anyway the kids had lots of fun which is the most important.

Luca was in charge of the ten pin bowling station. He took the job very seriously.

All the games were made from recycling materials. Some of them were super cool.

Once Luca finished his "work" he was allowed to play in the game stations too.

Well done Luca for making the fun day such a great one. We were very happy to see you taking pride in your projects. 

Kindy - show and tell

This year the kindy did something different for the teacher - parent meeting at the end of the term. They invited a small number of families for each session and showcased all the classwork. The children had to show the parents around and tell us what they have done. It was a very good way to see and learn.

Ashley's class theme was "house and family members". For a holiday project they had to make a "dream house" using recycling materials. I only remembered to make one with her a day before she returned to school so her one didn't look as amazing as her friends' ones.

Ashley made a house shaped photo frame too. The teacher told us she was very proud of telling everyone about the family member and said 1. we were on holiday in this picture and 2. everyone is wearing sunnies!

In her Chinese classroom:

They were put in a few groups to work on furniture making using paints and paper. They had great fun. Ashley's group made the dressing cabinet.

Then we moved to Luca's classroom. They were learning about different occupations/jobs. They made a clinic and a restaurant.

Overall comments from both Ashley and Luca's teachers were positive and both of them were very proud of themselves. I definitely prefer this much more than the previous teacher - parent meetings I have attended. Well done both of you! Now you can enjoy a whole month holiday!!!
