There were some seats for sale at the Marina Bay Sands hotel but we thought we would go for the free seating area on the other side of the Bay. We also didn't want to tire the kids out before midnight so stayed at home until 10:30. I guess some people were there from late afternoon to reserve a good viewing spot, so by the time we got there there were people everywhere and we couldn't get anywhere near the water. But we managed to find a spot (standing but not in the crowds) to settle for another hour.
Luca fell asleep for a while but Mina, Helen and Oliver were wide awake!
There was a band playing which kept the celebration mood going until the countdown.

3-2-1 Happy New Year!!!!
The fireworks were amazing, it went for 8min and we were so close, maybe a little too close in the end as I couldn't get any nice pictures because of the smoke, but we could see them so well! Oliver was just amazed and Luca woke up just before the countdown so he got to see them too :)
We didn't stay long after the countdown and started to head out to MRT station. We thought the nearest one might be too packed so walked to Raffle's Place. After standing there with a toddler over an hour and half, it felt like forever to get there :(
And this is what we found when we got to Raffle's Place:
Hundreds of people!! But this is Singapore, it was very well organised and controlled by security. To avoid the chaotic situation they limited the number of people going into the station. We thought we would be there for ever but in the end it wasn't too bad.

When we got home it was past 2am but we had to celebrate the New Year with some bubbly and a midnight snack!
We are so glad we went out for the evening. Thank you Maike & Hans for making the night very special! Once again a very Happy New Year to you all!!
